Just uploaded Joint Radio mix #18 The story of the new microphone and the autumn. Reggae party to Mixcloud. Listen now!
n April of 2013, Matthew Sikora, Liz Forde, and Devin Buttner had an epiphany. Accomplished musicians in their own right, each of them had been writing, playing, and recording in various bands around L.A., but hadn’t yet found the collaborative chemistry they had been seeking. The trio met at a party held by a mutual friend, and soon began talking about music, influences, and ambitions. They quickly realized that this was the chemistry that they had been missing! Thus, SIKORA was born.
Sikora’s music is a blend of dance, pop, and rock, with influences of many other EDM sub-genres. “We’re fans of so many artists and styles of music, that when we began writing as a group, a blend of various genres began to emerge and it became clear that we were doing something different,” explains Matthew. “We loved the tight harmonies of some of the vocal groups, but also loved the rawness of the Chili Peppers, the quirkiness and fun of the B-52’s, the innovation of Bowie, and of course we love the EDM DJ scene… Avicii in particular. It seemed completely natural for us to fuse these together. Each of us brings different talents and influences to the group. Our vocal blend was magic, our intuitive musical instincts were effortless, and thankfully, we actually like being around each other!”

From: Los Angeles
Instrument: Vocals, Guitar, Synthesizer, Drum Machine, Bass, Sampler,
Sequencer
Influences: Any moment in time that has transcended my human experience, and my father, who was an excellent musician
Inspiration: I had just finished playing the Vans Warped Tour when I decided to take a leap of faith and record my first solo album. To my surprise, KROQ, here in LA, featured one of the songs. It was the thrill of hearing my song being played over the radio for the first time that made me realize I wanted to play music as my full-time profession.
Liz
From: Minnesota (ish)
Instrument: Vocals, Keys, Programming
Influences: My Mom who is an amazing singer, both of my Grandmas, who were accomplished pianists, and ❤ Hanson ❤
Inspiration: In college, I had the opportunity of touring the U.S. and Europe with an a cappella group called the Nordic Choir. Although we sang in some of the world’s oldest cathedrals and grandest concert venues, including England’s Canterbury Cathedral and Minnesota’s Orchestra Hall, my most memorable performance was at a small church in Los Angeles. I always loved L.A., and it was there that my favorite composer, Eric Whitacre, made a surprise appearance to hear us perform his arrangement of “Water Night.” The song’s other-worldly use of polychord clusters always moved me to tears, but that night I was inspired even more greatly to move to L.A. and pursue my passion for music!
Devin
From: Chicago
Instrument: Drums, Percussion, Programming
Influences: My parents, who were both drummers
Inspiration: When I first moved out to L.A. I started working as an assistant to a top studio engineer. That experience started my career as a studio drummer, as well as learning the business side of the industry. He instilled in me a great work ethic, which I have found to be critically important in all aspects of my life. Meeting so many of the great musicians who came in and out of the studio rubbed off on me…and I have never looked back.
Sikora has now completed their EP called “Eye Kandi,” featuring the first single “Haters.” We look forward to sharing their music with you and hope to see you atone of their electrifying LIVE shows.
Stay Tuned….. SIKORA!!!!!
